Mod Project Zomboid with AI: mod lists and small fixes

Last updated:

Two working contributor reports describe managing a mod list and building small fixes. Gameplay guidance here is single-player; the dedicated-server material is limited to administration of your own modpack. These historical reports are not universal recommendations for installed mods.

Build 42 preset and compatibility triage

A loader-api project generated the game’s own mod-list preset and resolved startup failures by reading console.txt. The report records Build 42.20.3, Steam, Windows 10, and Python 3.12, Steam Web API and grep for scanning, preset generation and log triage. The final preset had 132 mods and loaded a new world. It was not re-tested on 42.20.4 or 42.21, and long-term play with every mod and duplicate-id selection remained unverified. Source: b42-20-modlist-preset-and-world-load-errors.md.

World loading could not proceed

Symptom → cause → reported fix: unresolved vehicle templates/parts or a recipe referencing a missing fluid stopped world creation. The final exception summarizes failure; look earlier in console.txt for the source. In the reported setup, disabling the broken vehicle modules and replacing the original Common Sense upload with its matching fork let the world load. This is version-specific evidence, not a current mod blacklist. Source: b42-20-modlist-preset-and-world-load-errors.md.

ERROR: part "BR89SpareTiresPD" not found

Symptom → cause → reported fix: a vehicle mod referenced a part not defined in the inspected mod/library folders. Disabling the referencing mod removed that failure. A large subscriber count was not evidence that the installed build was compatible. Source: b42-20-modlist-preset-and-world-load-errors.md.

Fluid not found: Alcohol

Symptom → cause → reported fix: the original Common Sense upload had a recipe referencing a fluid absent from this build. The contributor replaced it with Common Sense [B42.20+]. Do not assume that historical upload diagnosis still applies to a newer build. Source: b42-20-modlist-preset-and-world-load-errors.md.

MISSING MODS

Symptom → cause → reported fix: copied preset ids carried leading backslashes and failed exact matching. Write bare ids, read dependency metadata from the selected version folder, and edit the preset only with the game closed so its in-memory copy cannot overwrite changes. Duplicate ids remained ambiguous in this report. Source: b42-20-modlist-preset-and-world-load-errors.md.

Build 41: small fixes and your own modpack administration

The second loader-api report created separate texture, clothing-loot and radio-range fixes rather than editing another mod’s files. Its client was Build 41.78.16, Steam, Windows 10; the own-modpack server ran on Ubuntu 24.04, using SteamCMD, systemd and mcrcon. Other named tools are Python 3.12, Star’s Mod Manager and the in-game Workshop uploader. The note says 41.78.21 was not re-tested. Source: b41-modpack-fix-mods-and-linux-dedicated-server.md.

The contributor confirmed the texture fix, loot changes in fresh worlds and radio playback. The main texture gotchas were metadata only in a newer-version folder and textures in a layout the older build did not read; putting metadata at the mod root and using that build’s flat texture layout resolved them. Loot tests needed unvisited containers in new worlds because existing contents had already been saved. Radio script changes applied only to newly created radios; the fresh-radio server retest was not reported back. Source: b41-modpack-fix-mods-and-linux-dedicated-server.md.

Required mod not found

Symptom → cause → reported fix: the older metadata parser interpreted a URL containing an id query as the mod id. Removing that URL line or the query fixed recognition. This was not proof that the mod was absent from disk. Source: b41-modpack-fix-mods-and-linux-dedicated-server.md.

Object tried to call nil in mapLoadingRadios

Symptom → cause → reported finding: decorative map radio sprites were not radio objects, but the callback ran for them. The note identifies old recurring log noise, not the cause of silent radios, and supplies no isolated fix for this message. Source: b41-modpack-fix-mods-and-linux-dedicated-server.md.

For administration of your own modpack, the note distinguishes mod ids from Workshop ids, requires exact map-folder names, and reads spawn-region configuration at restart. Keep client and server mod copies consistent through proper updates. A corrected map-folder list stopped further city reports, but the result was not explicitly confirmed. This section offers no instructions for bypassing another server’s rules. Source: b41-modpack-fix-mods-and-linux-dedicated-server.md.

How to start your own mod

Install Universal Modder, then use the engine-research template with your owned Project Zomboid installation and exact version. Back up saves and configuration before changes; keep gameplay work single-player and use a separate test save. Adapt the engine-research template for one small slice, then ask for an observable in-game test and a record of what remains unverified. These are planning templates, not promises that the reported mod will work on another setup. Source: README rules and Try it.

Read merge games with AI before choosing a port or simulation, and use troubleshooting to compare the exact symptom with a named report.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a current recommended mod list?

No. The reports cover recorded builds and explicitly leave later versions untested. Recheck each mod against your installed build.

Where should I look after World loading could not proceed?

In the recorded Build 42 case, earlier console.txt entries identified missing vehicle parts/templates or a missing recipe fluid. The final exception alone did not name the offending mod.

Why did a changed loot table look unchanged?

The Build 41 report says existing containers had already been rolled and saved. It tested changes in new worlds and unvisited buildings.

What server material is covered here?

Only administration of your own modpack from the contributor's note. Gameplay mod guidance remains single-player, and bypassing another server's rules is outside scope.
